Backgrounds

Backgrounds are one of the most important elements in your photography. A boring background can lead to a boring picture. A distracting background will almost always produce a distracting picture. Fun, exciting, and aesthetically please, yet not distracting, backgrounds can be found ANYWHERE. Look around your house and your yard. Anything that has a pop of solid color, or and interesting texture will make a great background. Grass works wonderfully too! Just of fun, I shot these images at my house on Saturday. My 3 year old is in the back of a trailer hooked up to a truck. My 9 month old and his little baby buddy are just sitting against our fence. Once you start to really notice how beautiful peeling paint or scuffed up wood can be, you will start noticing amazing backdrops all around you.

Fair Fun!

Here are some shots of the fair we went to the other day. The last one is my son with his "Mom! No more pictures!" face. I had so much fun taking and editing these images. I loved both the Ferris wheel images so much, I couldn't decide which one to post. Elvis riding a unicycle and juggling was pretty fun too! The September fair would make an awesome place to take engagement photos for a fall/winter wedding!

Parading Pics

These are a few shots that I took at the parade today with my kids. I love taking pictures of anything and everything we do. I like to capture our memories in a sort of photo-journalistic way. Hopefully, when my kids are grown, this kind of photography will help to jog their memories about events and emotions they had growing up. Storytelling is my favorite part of being a photographer. (Sorry about all of the black and white...to me parades are timeless and scream nostalgia...what is more nostalgic than black and white!?)

The Details:
*All entries must be submitted by Wed, April 30th at midnight

*The mom-to-be must be due in May, June, or July of 2008.
*The maternity session must be scheduled at least 2 weeks in advance, preferably when the mom-to-be is 35-38 weeks pregnant.
*The newborn session must be scheduled within 14 days of the baby being born.
*You will be able to view images from each session (approximately two weeks after your photo shoot) in an online gallery. After choosing one complimentary 8×10 for each session, you have the opportunity to purchase other images from the session at a la carte prices.
